Outside In – Summer in the Gallery
A fun-filled summery mix of events and exhibitions. See the events list for the concerts and dances that kick start the programme and the workshops that accompany the major exhibition that follows:

Gosport’s Giant Interactive Sand Sculpture
Gosport’s Giant Interactive Sand Sculpture
Master Sand Artists Paul Hoggard and Remy Geerts will be pushing the boundaries of their art by creating a unique 3D sand scene with perspective, on a massive scale at Gosport Gallery. Watch it grow day by day over the first week (2-8 August) as the artists do their live installation, or view the finished masterpiece from 9 August and have a go yourself in the interactive sand trays. 11 September to 2 October
Outside In – Land, Sea and Townscapes
The summer programme ends with a painting exhibition of stunning outdoor scenes by three local artists, Barry Freeman, Peter Hammond and Cathy Kirby. The paintings – including some local scenes – will be on sale.

World of Imagination, Featuring Where’s Spot?
A celebration of 120 years of children’s storybook illustration, from Beatrix Potter, Arthur Rackham and Quentin Blake to Elmer the Elephant and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. To celebrate the special 30th anniversary of the lift-the-flap story “Where’s Spot?”, the exhibition will include 25 original illustrations from a selection of his popular stories including the book that began Spot’s adventures in 1980 – “Where’s Spot?”

Search and Discover in Gosport
Explore elements of Gosport’s heritage through a series of creative workshops led by disabled artist Mandie Saw. Work created will be exhibited for Heritage Open Days in September. Free stuff for families to do throughout the school holiday! Makes and takes, quizzes and games, linked to the museum collections in the Discovery Centre. Just drop in and ask where it’s happening on the day.

Sand Sculpting Workshops
For children and families. A chance to learn a transferable (to the beach!) skill from our master sand artists and create your own temporary exhibit in the Gallery. Places are free, but must be booked in advance from 19 July at the Discovery Centre reception or by telephoning 02392 523463. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Further details below.
Workshops - 6, 7,9 & 10 August. 1 hour sessions starting at 10am, 11.15am, 1pm, 2.15pm or 3.30pm each day. Free admission.

Behind the Scenes in the Museum – Tours for Heritage Open Days

Hospitals and Prisons – Prisoners of War around Gosport 1794-1815
Abigail Coppins from English Heritage will discuss her research into the lives of the thousands of prisoners of war imprisoned at Forton Prison, Portchester Castle and the prison ships in Portsmouth Harbour during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Abigail will demonstrate how research on documents in the National Archives at Kew is beginning to uncover a wealth of new information about the lives of the prisoners, and the prisons and those who worked there. Meet Spot and his Friends
Come and meet the pre-schoolers’ favourite, Spot, as the pages from children's books come to life. Other famous characters featured in the new exhibition 'World of Imagination featuring Where's Spot' may make an appearance too. Bring your camera to have your photo taken with the lovable puppy. A free event for the very young and the young at heart.
