Gosport.info - Update February 2007

1) There are now over 1890 businesses and organisations on the Gosport.info, which can be reached from the navigation buttons on the left. They are grouped under categories, some under more than one as necessary. If you feel there changes, say putting in a different or additional category, please let me know. Also if you know of changes or businesses or organisations not on the site, please advise who and how to contact them.

2) As I am sure you know the Gosporteers Carnival, in aid of the Mayors charities will be of Walpole Park on 16th June. There are a number of ways that you can help if you wish from putting up a poster, on to providing a lorry and driver for a float;- generators for floats;- if you know someone who may wish to be the Carnival Queen or Princess;- sponsor a cost (say a Police Officer for the day or Public Liability Insurance) ;- donate a prize for the raffle;- assist with decorating floats;- help as Steward on the day;- stalls Charity £15 Business £20. 3) As a member of Hampshire Libraries there are On-line resources that you can use from home or library. Try it go to www.hants.gov.uk/library/ then click the link to ‘Reference Library On-line’ then select the resource that you want use, then put in your Library card number, your in. You can search the Hampshire Library catalogue from http://libcat.hants.gov.uk .

4) A page has been set-up for the history and photos of the Compton Cinema Organ in the Thorngate Halls www.gosport.info/History/Gosport_Compton_Organ/gosport_compton_organ.html . If you would like a page or more for your Gosport organisation or something along the history line, please let me know.

Haslar Hospital Petition

I have received information about the Haslar Petition on the Downing St web site, from 3 people and 2 of them asked if I could put it on the Gosport.info web site, though both said it may be too political for that site. I thought I would ask you whether it is the sort of thing you would be happy with? My concern is where to draw the line and that a large proportion of the visitors to that web site are from abroad. There is this Gosport.info blog which could be a place for these items or a forum. I understand the two Gosport forums seem to have closed, the MyGosport one no longer allows me to log in, so unless someone confirms one is still there, I could follow up an enquiry from the Whiteley Forum who are in the process of including a Hampshire Discussion Forum on that site, which does include information about the Haslar Petition. Please let me know if you feel these more political item would be OK for Gosport.info web site, the Gosport.info Blog, Gosport or Hampshire Forums or some combination of the above. I have been advised that Joan Russell is planning to let me have something on the history of Haslar Hospital the Gosport.info web site in the next few months. Ian Jeffery

Tools for Self-Reliance

Lee Horticultural Society supports TOOLS FOR SELF RELIANCE
Can you help? Have a look in your loft, workshop and garages to donate any old unwanted Hand Tools for all Trades – engineering tools – spanners, pliers, wrenches, woodworking hand tools chisels, planes, hammers, old cameras, sewing machines & typewriters for local Tools for Self Reliance team in Stubbington. This Charity helps third world countries. Bring then along to the Lee Horticultural Society Trading Hut in Holly Bank, Lee and they will be collected by Tools for Self Reliance team who will distribute them or sell to purchase other essential items for use in the Third World
