Gosport.info Update June 2007

1) When talking to the people who look after www.gosportpages.co.uk and www.aboutmyarea.co.uk/po12 , it seemed that the way Gosport.info is organised is confused. In an attempt to make it clearer as people provide information, memories and photos at no charge. I am removing the offer or paid for advertising on the web site. Where others have helped Gosport.info I will continue to put on ads for free. If people wish to support the web site, there are a number of ways to do that, as shown in the site.

2) I am now offering to all Gosport web sites, if you add something to your site, such as photos or review of an event, interview or something else and you advise me when you add it, I will put something about it on the 'Home Page' of Gosport.info with a link to the item on your web site, or if not to a page which is linked to that item. It will depend on time or space on the site.

3) In July I will be at the Marine Archaeology event at Forton Lake on Sunday 15th and the Gosport Lions, Gosport Town Show at Walpole Park on the 28th. See me at the events and let me have any information that you want added to the web site have a chat about the site or just pick up a free pen or badge, while stocks last. The Gosport Carnival went well on last Saturday the 16th. There was some rain for a short while, but once it cleared, the sun came out and all dried up. I am not sure how many more people know about the web site, but I gave out about 120 pens plus a number of badges, as well as the leaflets and cards.

4) If you have a special event, new Gosport business or organisation, that you want some free publicity for, send me the details and where space I will put it on this email, which goes to 720 people and businesses, and/ or the Home page of Gosport.info web site and if still too much the Gosport.info Blog, which I must admit I do not add enough information to and have not really worked out how best to use it. Don't forget you can add thoughts to the Gosport.info blog yourself, I will receive a copy of what you add, but am sure that I will not need to remove anything.    

5) I have not added the research in to 'Jackie Spencer's Bridge' by David Maber to the web site under the section of Gosport.info. David finishes with; 'So we have an outline of John (Jackie) Spencer’s life, clearly he was an ordinary working man struggling to maintain his family on very limited means. He would not normally have attracted a biography nor, I am sure, would he have expected his life to have been researched and reviewed a century following his death, however, someone buried in an unmarked grave yet has a bridge named after them deserves to have their story told in my opinion. May unproven rumours be dispelled so he can rest in peace. David Maber © 2005'
So you can see you may think of yourself as ordinary, but in the future people I am sure with find the story of you life and times in Gosport interesting and useful. It does not matter how young you are as with the Internet you can add more in stages say every year. There are nearly 1,300 pages but only uses around 80Mbs of space, I have not seen a paid for web hosting firm that gives less than 500Mbs and this goes up each year, so do not worry how many pages you add over the years.

6) I have made arrangements for the Gosport.info web site to be looked after if I am no longer around, apart from a smallish amount to relative and some more to charities and similar organisations the balance is going to someone who has agreed to continue with the web site, I am not able to use the money myself as it is mostly my house. I am sure that he will not be able to spend the time that I do on the site, but as a minimum the, history, stories, memories and photos will remain and I expect if items for the What's on, and updates for businesses and organisation keep coming in he will deal with them, so make sure you get your memories to me as soon as possible.
