Explosion Museum

It look like if you want to have a look, or another look at the Explosion Museum, may be an idea to go in the next couple of months as it is claimed the Council may be thinking of closing it. I understand that they are saying something about, 'mothballing' until a developer is interested, which they hope will be a short time, though if Fort Brockhurst is anything to go by, it could be many years before it is reopened.

Unfortunately I only sent my cheque for £15 a few weeks ago as a Friend Of Explosion Museum, though I have not received anything yet so they may be holding on until they know what is happening.

I understand the annual cost is about the same for 15,000 visitors to the museum as it cost to provide 5,000 pensioners bus passes and the upgrade to the High Street. Ian

Gosport Busineses

Please remember if you are a business with links to Gosport I will add the details and a link to your web site, if you have one to Gosport.info . I will add as much, up to about 3 lines, or as little as you want, so if you would prefer me to leave off your address, I am happy to do that.

When visiting Gosport.info, also have a look at the 'Requests' 'Can You Help' and 'Are You There' pages as I add requests for information to these pages most weeks. You maybe able to help someone and someone may be able to help you in the future. The 'What's Ons ' may also be a good place to visit. each time you go to the web site. Ian

Boxing Day

I hope that you had a great Christmas Day, for me it seem that it was one of the best. The roads were also quiet at 1:15am today, though there was a Police car parked in Whites Place, even though there were very few people about.

It is all happening in my house later today.

Still not raining, no snow, a bit chilly about 4 degrees C and very little wind. Very friendly people about. Ian

Happy Christmas

Good morning and I hope that you have a very good Christmas Day.

The weather is not snowing, it is a bit overcast, no rain or sun at the moment and the temperature at 9:30am is about 6 degrees C.

The one thing you notice on Christmas morning is that there is no traffic noise, where as on any other day there is a continuous rumble, to the extent that you only notice it on days like Christmas day when the sound is gone. Mind you in a couple hours it will all start again. Best wishes, Ian.

Gosport's Only Online Business Directory!!!!!??

I have recently come across a new web site, it states that it, 'is new and will take a few weeks to be fully up and running.' It also states that it is,'Gosport's only online Business directory.'.

I have put a note on the web site comments form advising that there are a number of web sites in the area, some covering Gosport or larger area, some cover parts of Gosport. Some sites charge for business directory entries as does this new sites others are free including Gosport.info, Gosport.gov.uk and Gosport.com.

It is good to have plenty of choice of different types of site and when you remember there were only a couple of Gosport sites a few years ago, now there is a good selection. If you would like me to add as fuller list here as I have, let me know. Ian

Christmas Cards and Gosport Council

A few months ago I came across an article in Coastline, the Gosport Borough Council magazine, I think quarterly, saying that a couple had moved to Gosport and contacted someone at the council and asked if there was a web site that gave information about Gosport Business, Organisation and Events, (What's On). The person at the Council said as she could not find one, they said and have set-up a web site, though they charge for business entries to the directory. I was able to send and e-mail advising of the half dozen or so sites in the Gosport area that do something similar to that. She thanked me for the information.

The Council has over the past few years been kind enough to put my posters on the Council Information Boards in January or February, one year for a whole month. I feel Gosport.info is not becoming well enough known in Gosport, even after having a stand at The three Gosporteers events this year. With some of the money from the Google Adwords, I delivered Christmas cards as above to all the Councillors and a few who I had contacted in the past working for the Council, with some of the calendar cards as described in the previous post in the hope that at least as many as possible at the Council that people may contact, will have at least heard of the web site, they may even have a list, so people can take there pick of the sites.

I even received a of card from a couple of the Councillors, who either in the card or an e-mail made kind comments about the web site. I did say in my e-mails to them, if they wanted me to put something on the site to send it to me. I hope not the personal comments as I get confused when one person says the other person did one thing and they say it was the other person. There are I feel other places to find that sort of thing.

As I am sure you know I do my best to put memories and so on, on the site as sent, except where the person has sent in a group of e-mails and asked me to make something from it, even then I send it back for them to approve before adding to the site. I have made mistakes in the past, spelling etc. but have always changed the item when pointed out. Requests for information I sometimes reduce to fit on the page, but will always change or remove if requested. Ian

Gosport's Weather

Gosport's weather is quite often different to the rest of the UK, for example the last 4 days on the news there has been a lot about thick fog. Here I went out and delivered 500 cards with a calendar for 2007 on one side and Gosport.info details on the other. The cards were donated by Philip Dimon of Dimon Estate Agents in Stoke Rd., a total of 1,000, the others I put with the Christmas cards. I also delivered about 300 leaflets on 3 of those days, all in bright sunshine, if a bit chilly, though we did have fog in the early morning and much of Thursday. If you have come to the web site from one of the cards or leaflets, please contact me on admin@gosport.info perhaps you would have suggestions for improvements or additions to the web site. Other times I have been gardening in sunshine and the radio is going on about rain. I have to admit though we sometimes have a bit of rain when they do not in other parts of the area.

Gosport.info - Update November 2006

1) I expect this will be the last update e-mail before Christmas, I would like to offer Seasons Greetings and Best Wishes for the New Year. I also hope that I will be able to spend some time over the winter to add more information, photos and history, so if you have memories or photos that you would not mind me adding to the site, please e-mail them to me. Photos are put on at a resolution low enough not to be able to be printed at any quality and I will not send on higher resolution without your permission.

2) I am now receiving updates to the business and organisation from people involved with them and even people who notice changes. I am very grateful, it helps to keep the site update, which I suspect is impossible with all the changes, but make an effort each winter to go round and note all the changes I find. As usual if you find a change of details for a business or organisation, please let me know.

3) I have been asked if I know of a bedsit or room to let in Gosport for about 6 months, the ideal would be ground floor, near Priddys Hard, but if you have something in Gosport please e-mail me and I will forward the information so you can discuss it with the person who asked.

4) If you run a business or organisation you may wish to have a look at www.tradingfareham.co.uk & www.thediscdirectory.co.uk if you contact them please tell them that you saw it on Gosport.info. I met the business owners at the Networking event at explosion . Thank you.

Best wishes,
Ian Jeffery

Car Parking and Explosion Museum

I understand that there is now 2 or 3 hours free parking in the short stay car parks, I understand currently until the end of January 2007 and it may change a again after that. My warning would be when parking to look out for all notices so that you do not get a nasty surprise when coming back to your car.

Also I understand some counsellors are asking for opinions about The Explosion Museum, of course it cannot have unlimited money for ever. I feel all should take a look at the charges, especially the amount and benefits of becoming a 'Friend' of the museum, a couple of visits in the year in particular if you take friends and family, where they receive a 20% discount, plus other benefits, should get your money back. Clothing Logos

Would you believe it, looking for a firm to supply a small number of items of clothing with a logo for Gosport.info for next years events and one has moved in very close to where I live. It has ment that a shop selling Baby and Child items has closed, or maybe just moved it is Waggit Pet Products and Embroidery at 191 Anns Hill Road, Gosport PO12 3RF www.waggitt.co.uk .

If your business has opened in the last few months, or I do not have it on Gosport.info at www.gosport.info, or it has moved, please let me know and I will add to or update the entry on the web site. Thank you Ian.
